BIOGRAPHY
Welcome to Ignite Counselling & Psychology and thanks for checking us out!
I’d love to share a little about me, with you, so that can get a feel for who I am; how I practice; what I’m passionate about; and most importantly, if you think we’d be a good fit. Because what most matters in the therapeutic setting is not as much the technique being used, but the therapeutic alliance – the relationship created between yourself and your Counsellor.
I’ve been working in this ever growing, vast field since 2008. I graduated with my B.A. in Honours Psychology from Concordia University in Montréal and then moved on to complete my Masters (M.Ed) at the University of Ottawa in Educational Counselling.
I moved to Whitehorse in 2013 after doing some living in Watson Lake in 2011. A lot of my experience and time since then has been spent working with youth; creating and facilitating webinars for the Northern Institute of Social Justice at Yukon University; advocating for and working with 2SLGBTQI folks; and traveling the north to facilitate a two-day workshop: ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) with my epic colleague, Meg Grudeski. To date, I have helped to train over 750 people in creating suicide safer communities in Whitehorse and in most all of our communities in the Yukon! I also deliver a workshop called SafeTALK which is a 3 hour training to become a suicide alert helper.
Most recently my passion and interest has turned toward a psychotherapeutic approach developed by Dr. Gabor Maté called, Compassionate Inquiry. I’m currently enrolled in the year long intensive training (May 2023 cohort) which explores reconnecting our body and minds together in relation to trauma and how to heal by rediscovering our true authentic selves that lie beneath. When my day is done at the office, you'll likely find me chasing my 3 year old around outside; forcing snuggles on my 12 year old husky mix pup, Colby; figuring out how to convince my partner that I need another lego set, or using way too many exclamation points in my emails and texts!
If you feel that I could be a good fit for what your needs are – I encourage you to reach out to me through email or through our online intake form (here).
Looking forward to connecting and working with you!
